Biographic Notes

Paola Mello received the B.A. degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Bologna, in Italy, in 1982 and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science in 1989. Since January 1983 she works at the "Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informatica e Sistemistica" DEIS of the University of Bologna. She is, at present, full professor at DEIS.

Research Activity

Her research activity centres around logic and object-oriented programming programming and knowledge representation, and has been carried out both on theoretical and practical aspects. Her research focuses on the definition, design and implementation of expert systems in design, scheduling and planning. Moreover, she worked on some extensions to the logic programming paradigm towards the object-oriented one in order to broaden its application area towards artificial intelligence. On these research topics, she is the author of numerous scientific publications, published on international journals and international conference proceedings.
Some recent and relevant papers published by Paola Mello on the above topics will be soon available at the Papers from LIA Page. Technical Reports published by Paola Mello in the LIA Series can be found and downloaded from the LIA Technical Reports Page.

Notes

She is a member of the Association for Logic Programming, of the Italian association for Logic Programming (GULP) and of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA). She is a member of the Executive Council of the European Network of Excellence in Computational Logic. She was the chairperson of the Fourth Italian Conference of Logic Programming, held in Bologna in 1989, and she was the organizing chair of the European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming (ECOOP94), held in Bologna in 1994.
